Question 401: The RAWLOG Feature

Question: What is the RAWLOG Feature and how is it used. ?

Version: Call Accounting Jr. 

Answer: The RAWLOG feature of Call Accounting Jr. allows you to save the raw call records from your phone system to a separate file named RAWLOG.DBF along with the processed call records in the CALLFILE.DBF database.  This allows you to go back and look at the raw call records if there is a question on a particular call.  To access this feature, you select the VIEW icon from the FORMAT SMDR icon on the UTILITIES menu of the main Call Accounting Jr. menu.

Question 402: Changing Communication Parameters

Question: What are the differences between Call Accounting Pro and Call Accounting Jr. ?

Version: Call Accounting Jr. 

Answer: Call Accounting Jr. now includes a WIZARD program that runs automatically when you install the system that walks you through setting up communication parameters for your Call Accounting System.  If you don't want to re-install your system to see the WIZARD utility program, you can run it directly by running the program named JR_SETUP.EXE located in the Call Accounting Jr. Directory (Default directory is CAJR34)

Question 404: Capturing Calls During Printing

Question: Does Call Accounting Jr. Continue to Capture calls when reports are printing?

Version: Call Accounting Jr. 

Answer: No, When you take the system off-line to capture calls, the Call Accounting Jr. does not continue to capture calls.  Some PBX's however do buffer calls while the system is off-line.

Question 405: Using Dedicated PC for Call Accounting Jr.

Question: Does Call Accounting Jr. Require a Dedicated PC ?

Version: Call Accounting Jr. 

Answer: Yes, Call Accounting Jr. does require a dedicated PC.  This means that you have to dedicate the PC to the call accounting function and that it cannot be used for anything else besides Call Accounting.  Call Accounting PRO uses a memory buffer between the PC and the Phone System and does not require that the PC be dedicated to the Call Accounting function.

Question 406: Hotel/Motel Property Management Interface

Question: Does Call Accounting Jr. have a Property Management Interface for the Hotel/Motel Operation ?

Version: Call Accounting Jr. 

Answer: Yes, Call Accounting Jr. has an optional feature which allows you to interface your Call Accounting with your Hotel/Motel System.   This feature captures call records on one com port of the PC, prices and processes the calls, and then sends them to your property management system down another port on the same PC.  This way calls are recorded in "real-time" as they are made right to your customers portfolio on your Property Management System.

Answer: Yes, there are two versions of Call Accounting Jr.   One version tracks up to 50 extensions, and the other tracks an unlimited number of extensions.

Question 410: Print Plain Report Without Graphics

Question: Can I print Plain Text Reports without Graphics ?

Version: Call Accounting Jr. 

Answer: Yes, we do have a report file that contains no graphical characters (large text, underlines, boxes).  These reports work well with dot matrix printers.  If you wish to use these reports, you can download the non-graphical version of the Call Detail Report free from our web site.  Simply save the file to the same directory as your Call Accounting Jr. system, and it will overwrite your graphical report with a non-graphical one.

Question 411: Force Single Prefix to be a Local Call

Question: How do I force a single prefix to be a local call ?

Version: Call Accounting Jr. 

Answer: There is a way to force particular extensions to be local calls even if they are dialed as long distance calls.  This only works if you are using the ADVANCED COSTING feature of Call Accounting Jr., and you have costing for Long Distance and Local Calls set to TABLE.  If you wanted to force calls to the area code 818 and prefix 734 to be local here are the toolbox commands you would use:

Start the ToolBox Module and Type the Following Commands:

  1. CLOSE DATABASES
  2. USE PLM_AC.DBF
  3. SET ORDER TO 1
  4. SEEK '818734'
  5. BROWSE

Next cursor over to the end of the line to the field named LOCALAREA.  Put the word LOC all in caps in that field to indicate that this extension is to be treated as local even if dialed as long distance.

Answer: There is a way to force particular extensions to be local calls even if they are dialed as long distance calls.  This only works if you are using the ADVANCED COSTING feature of Call Accounting Jr., and you have costing for Long Distance and Local Calls set to TABLE.  To remove an area code from local forced costing for Area Code 310  you can use the following commands. 

Start the ToolBox Module and Type the Following Commands:

  1. CLOSE DATABASES
  2. USE PLM_AC.DBF
  3. SET ORDER TO 1
  4. REPLACE ALL LOCALAREA WITH "   "  FOR NPA = "310"

Question 415: Reprocessing Calls with Call Accounting Jr.

Question: Can Calls be reprocessed using Call Accounting Jr.?

Version: Call Accounting Jr. 

Answer: No, since Call Accounting Jr. uses a "live" direct connection with the phone system, you cannot reprocess call records captured using it.  You can however use Toolbox commands to edit the data if you need to make changes to call records.

Question 416: Reports Available with Call Accounting Jr.

Question: What Reports are Available with Call Accounting Jr. ?

Version: Call Accounting Jr. 

Answer: Call Accounting Jr. only has a basic Call Detail Report included with it.  All of the other Call Accounting Reports, Billing Reports, Month End Reports, and Exception Reports are available only on Call Accounting Pro.

Question 417: How to edit Raw Logs/ How to edit Processed Call File ?

Version: Call Accounting Jr. 

BackgroundHow do I look at and/or edit the raw call detail and processed call records.

Caution:  If you save any changes made while editing either the raw or processed data files, you need to be careful that you do not change any file formats.  If you do, you could damage the file so that it is unusable in the future.  Be careful that any changes you make do not affect the structure of the file.  Also, any changes made to the raw data file are unrecoverable. 

Edit / View Raw Data

The raw data files are stored in the \\logfiles directory under your Call Accounting Software.  The default path name is c:\ca200X where X is the version (ex. ca2002, ca2004).  These files are stored in plain ASCII format and can be edited from any text editor.  To edit them from the Comm One Toolbox issue the following command:

                  MODIFY COMMAND ?

Edit / View Processed Data:  

Processed data is stored in the current file PLM_CA.DBF located in the current directory.  To edit this file, load the toolbox module and type the following commands:

  1. CLOSE DATABASES
  2. USE PLM_CA.DBF
  3. BROWSE NORMAL

When you are complete, just close the window.  The file saves changes as you leave each field automatically.
